Since Karl Lagerfeld launched that spaceship at the Chanel show in Feb, a significant part of our colour palette for winter was prescribed with a blast. For the past six years, in the grand scheme of things, faux fur coats have graduated from being a 2011 comeback trend to a wardrobe staple. Personally, I have three faux fur coats (I also have one gilet, but we are specifically talking coats here) and if it were up to me I’d have ten more. I’m super fussy with the coats I buy, but when I find them, I live in them. Here’s why:
Throughout my life I always loved playing dress-up with my besties, and I love that as a grown-up, as manly as he is, my husband is now undoubtedly that bestie. Great style in winter really comes down to mastering the art of layering, and with Cape Town providing us with plenty of solid chill, it’s a skill everyone ought to know. From my personal, previously not-modest experience, layering the smart way can result in even the skimpiest-looking outfits keeping you seriously warm. On days where I can avoid being my typically clumsy self, I do enjoy an all-white look, especially teamed with a pop of tan or chestnut. Wearing one single colour, especially in a lighter shade, always looks chic and expensive.
