adidas Originals have once again teamed up with Japanese womenswear label, HYKE, collaborating to produce another collection that infuses HYKE’s signature clean aesthetic with adidas Originals iconic designs. Myself and Emma Jane Menteath from My Life in Pink shot with adidas Originals South Africa, fronting this localised version of the HYKE SS16 lookbook, photographed by Justin Polkey.
With Hideaki Yoshihara and Yukiko Odi as the force behind HYKE, their contemporary design and focus is on tailoring and simplicity, while their primary concept is “Heritage and Evolution”. Maintaining a navy and white colourway throughout, each item is given a distinctly clean, Japanese touch with a sleek silhouette.
Myself and Emma have always been die-hard Stan Smith fans with a love for super-white sneakers, so we pretty much squealed with delight when we were given these two versions ultra blanc Stans to shoot in! I have been wearing the slightly high top Stan Smiths almost every day since the shoot. My favourite item from the entire collection is the “skirt” I’m wearing, which is essentially a pair of culottes with a front flap – I’m about 99.9% sure I’m shamelessly going to wear it again next week to SA Fashion Week. I also can’t wait for chillier days to wear this knit dress!
