Behind-the-Scenes: AFashionFriend Creature Shoot

 

I recently guest-blogged for AFashionFriend, and my first post was on my latest unattainable obsession, the creature coat. Robynne Kahn, Cosmo magazine’s Fashion Director and AFF Founder, has been on my case for months about styling/writing for the website, and being the lazy bones that I am only took her up on her offer now. 

 

The creature coat I wrote about inspired my concept for the styling of the shoot. I looked at how fashion has been styled in the past; animal-print-themed shoots have graced the pages of many a magazine and I didn’t want to show people how “leopard print is back”, or how fantastic it is to break zebra print with a pop of colour. I wanted to look at the less obvious “creatures”, like poisonous reptiles, exotic birds and monsters, and playing with acidic colours and textures that may relate.  Instead of the usual faux fur donned by just about everyone nowadays, I wanted brightly coloured and super shaggy fauxs.

 

After seeing the unedited images alone, I am beyond excited to share the spread with you when Ash is done with the edits. I’m so proud of the work produced by our incredible team! For now, this is what it looked like behind-the-scenes.
