OOTD: Why You Need a Faux Fur Coat & Tips for Purchasing One

IMG_3117

For the past six years, in the grand scheme of things, faux fur coats have graduated from being a 2011 comeback trend to a wardrobe staple. Personally, I have three faux fur coats (I also have one gilet, but we are specifically talking coats here) and if it were up to me I’d have ten more. I’m super fussy with the coats I buy, but when I find them, I live in them. Here’s why:

From a purely practical point of view, it’s the warmest thing you will ever wear!
Then of course there’s something so chic and incredibly glamorous about a woman in fur. Personally, I wear mine with everything, on any occasion even when I’m grocery shopping. Do people stare? Yes. But if you’re both the warmest and most stylish-looking girl in the room, who’s really winning here?

Tips for buying the perfect faux fur

1.) If it’s your first time buying a faux fur, I recommend going for a neutral shade like cream or black. It will go with more  in your closet and help you to get used to wearing the style, because it’s quite possible you will feel overdressed or like you’ve overestimated your willingness to wear a faux fur. Once you have your staple coat, I also recommend investing in some fun coloured ones. I also suggest getting coats that have two tones in them because it gives the fur dimension and makes it look more expensive.
2.) Go for something with longer, soft, fluffy strands for a more expensive look and avoid shorter “fuzzy” looking furs.
3.) If you’re wanting your faux fur to imitate a real one, make sure it doesn’t have that overly artificial gloss to it. If the hairs get pulled back, a quality strand will promptly move back into position.

ABOUT THIS OUTFIT:

Last Friday I was meant to go to an adidas Originals NMD launch and at the last minute I couldn’t attend. This was going to be my look that night. I wouldn’t have usually rocked this combo but since I have a long term relationship with the brand, I felt compelled to wear the brand. At the same time though I really was in the mood to wear heels and fur, so I gave myself the best of both worlds.
