Sit Like A “Lady” – An Editorial & Trend Report on 2019 Hosiery.

One of the best ways to inject a little fun into an ensemble during the colder months is to experiment with stockings. They’re my personal favourite for allowing me to wear my lighter summer dresses in winter, and I’d even argue that coupled with a pair of boots, they keep you warmer than a pair of trousers! We teamed up with Falke to share a few of my favourite stocking/hosiery trends for 2019, and a little creative editorial inspired by each one.

About the Editorial:

Since women are so often told to sit like a lady, which by my terms means sit however you want, we may as well adorn our legs with chic stockings while doing so. In fact, sitting in a way that subtly boasts about your winter hosiery is highly encouraged by me.

PRINT: LOVE LACE / PRINT ON PRINT

Lace stockings made their mark on the runways in recent fall collections (as seen by Alexander Wang and D&G), and they’re an easy way to add refined detail to a simple look. Conversely, if like me, you love to mix your prints, try teaming it with even more lace or a juxtaposed pattern for an unapologetically feminine statement.

A SPLASH OF COLOUR

As fashion calls more for bold moments, the colourful and dramatic are all too welcome. I’ve always loved pairing leopard print with pops of colour, and between that and other bold prints, that’s how I’ll be rocking coloured pantyhose this season.

STOCKINGS & SANDALS

When it isn’t wet outside, the stockings and sandals trend will allow you to wear your favourite summer footwear in the colder months, and this trend is my personal favourite. It’s one of those instant outfit trend updates that you can pull off with items that already may exist in your closet. Tip: team contrasting shades of stockings with your sandals to make the look pop even more.

PRINT: A POP OF POLKA DOT

From dresses, to suits and footwear, polka dot as a print in general is having a serious trend moment, and it’s extending to pantyhose too. Subtle and yet still making a statement, Miley Cyrus even wore this very pair to this year’s Met Gala. I always loved the old Hollywood glam feel that a pair of sheer, black stockings brings to an ensemble, but polka dot gives it a cute-meets-sexy appeal.

While plain, dark stockings are indeed a necessary wardrobe staple, I’ll definitely be having a lot more fun with some of these looks this winter. Which one of them is your favourite? Or do you have another way you prefer to wear your hosiery?
