This past Friday, I attended the meet-and-greet cocktail party hosted by Woolworths for Candice, as they had brought our homegrown supermodel back to SA shores for their Christmas campaign and the #OperationSmile project for children with cleft pallets. After I very excitedly told people I had met her, many were surprisingly not in the know as to the amazing things this twenty-five year old flawless beauty has achieved.
Hailing from the modest little town of Mooi River, Swanepoel was scouted at a Durban flea market at age fifteen. She is best known for her title as a Victoria’s Secret Angel, a title she gained in 2010 and has walked the glitter runway for them since 2007. She has graced the covers of Vogue magazines in over six countries, as well as the covers of Elle, GQ and Harpers Bazaar. She has worked for brands like Blumarine, Oscar de la Renta, Guess, Tom Ford, Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf, Dior, Givenchy, Elie Saab, Giambattista Valli, Fendi, Jean Paul Gaultier and Jason Wu – among many others. In 2013, she was ranked number 9 on Forbes The World’s Top-Earning Models list, with estimated earnings of $3.3 million.
Swan-like, graceful and soft-spoken, during her speech Candice thanked everyone for “being so proud” of her. Well done to Woolies for bringing her back to South Africa, what a face to lead a campaign!
