Winter Trends I’m Loving!

With our favourite fashion season upon us, I thought I’d do a little summary of trends I’ve been wearing and loving for Winter 2019. From styling items you already have in your closet to prints and must-have pieces, these are just a few ways you can update your ensemble this season!

KNEE LENGTH DRESSES/SKIRTS WITH KNEE-HIGH BOOTS

Okay so I’ve cheated a bit here to make things more modest. Typically you’d have a gap between where your hemline ends and your boots begin, so instead of getting new, below-the-knee boots, I’ve just paired my shorter hemlines with thigh high boots to keep things covered while pulling off the same look. Easy peasy!

BLAZERS BELTED OVER DRESSES

Thanks to the amazing Maria Grazia Chiurri and her styling of her Dior collections, belted blazers over feminine frocks are a serious styling trend. Take the trend further by teaming completing your look with chunky, flat lace-up boots.

DR MARTENS / UTILITY BOOTS

Speaking of lace-up flat boots, utility boots in general, especially Dr Martens, are having a major moment on the ‘gram in particular. I’ve been eyeing these Jadon boots from That Shoe Lady for quite some time, and you can get them here. They do cost a pretty penny though (R3999), so try this option for  for something more budget-friendly.

The idea here is to wear them with basically absolutely anything and everything for the ultimate cool-girl edge.

ANIMAL PRINTS

These days my closet is closely-resembling the Big 5. From snake print to leopard print, croc, zebra and more, animal print is the print you want to try this season, if you haven’t already!

(Leopard dress and snake print dress both from Nala Cape Town, jacket from Alysu).

POWER SUITS

The power suit isn’t going anywhere, my friends. We loved it in bold colours and pastel hues for two summers now, and for winter we are looking at pinstripes, corduroys, checkered prints and chocolatey brown tones. If your suit is tapered, try pairing it with some riding boots for an updated equestrian twist!

PLEATED SKIRTS

I’m really into my pleated skirts these days! They’re feminine and classic regardless of length. I love how they look paired with a leather biker jacket. This warm, autum colour palette is also so stunning for this season.

(Biker jacket from Thailand, top and pleat skirt both from Nala Cape Town, Stuart Weitzman boots from Spitz).

SILKY NECK SCARVES

Silky neck scarfs are without a doubt the accessory to be seen in this winter. They are so versatile and bring a polished sense of glamour to any outfit. Look out for my scarf collaboration with Daphne Accessories dropping soon!

(Daphne X Aqeelah scarf, Tom Ford shades [Sunglass Hut], Europa Art bag, H&M blazer, Zara jeans, Carvela boots from Spitz)

LATEX PANTS

I’ve always loved my leathery pants, but this latex pair from Brett Robson has stolen my heart! It’s a little daring at first but I swear, once you wear it, it’s a total mood that you won’t want to give up.

(Thrifted Diesel jacket, Simon & Mary hat, Brett Robson pants, Nikes from Sportscene)

Which of these trends do you love? Or hate? Which are you wanting to try?
